BJP Urges Delhi Government to Close Schools Amid Severe Air Pollution
NewsAir Quality Reaches Hazardous Levels
Delhi’s air quality has reached alarming levels, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) soaring to 366, as per real-time data from the Central Pollution Control Board (CPCB) at 9 am on Wednesday. The hazardous air pollution has prompted the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) to call for immediate action, urging the Delhi government to shut down all schools up to Class 5 for the safety of children.
BJP’s Concerns Over Children’s Health
In a press conference, Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva expressed deep concerns about the impact of the severe pollution on children and the elderly, who are most vulnerable to respiratory issues. He criticized the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government for its failure to manage the city’s air quality, describing Delhi as a “gas chamber” due to the rising pollution levels.
Sachdeva emphasized the lack of government clinics and adequate medical resources to provide essential care for those affected by pollution. He pointed out that PM 2.5 levels had surged beyond 400, and PM 10 levels had exceeded 1,000, making the air quality “very poor.”
Calls for Immediate Action
The city also witnessed its first dense fog of the season on Wednesday, further worsening visibility and air quality. The BJP has urged the Delhi government to take swift action, including the closure of schools, to protect public health and mitigate the impact of the ongoing pollution crisis.
